The Frugal Conservationist


Canadian filmmaker Steve Woloshen on his process for recreating a powerful scene from episode 206 of X Company.

Born in Montreal, Canada in 1960, Woloshen is an award-winning Experimental Filmmaker and Animator. He has been passionately creating handmade abstract films, documentaries and time-based installations for museums and galleries for more than 30 years. Woloshen has been a University lecturer, Juror for international Animation Festivals, Film Conservationist, animator, craftsman and author of Recipes for Reconstruction: The Cookbook or the Frugal Filmmaker, the filmmaker’s manual for decay, renewal and other handmade, analogue film techniques and recently, Scratch, Crackle & Pop! A whole grains approach to making films without a camera. This commissioned film is Woloshen’s 52nd short film.
